Camellia Café in Daphne Alabama

Located right in the heart of the downtown historic district, the Camellia Café is a hallmark of Daphne's culinary tradition. Although this eatery has been around for a while, it underwent a dramatic transformation when it was taken over by a new chef, Ryan Glass, in 2006. Under Chef Glass's expert hand, this restaurant has blossomed and now offers what many consider to be the finest dining experience on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay.

Chef Glass brings a great many talents to the table that all help to improve the quality of the food and the overall dining experience that customers come from all over the Daphne area to enjoy. One particular selling point for this cozy little café is the way that each entrée on the menu is carefully paired with a wine suggestion. Chef Glass spent several years working at the illustrious Martini House which is located in Napa Valley, and the knowledge of wine that he cultivated through his work there has enabled him to choose just the right wine to go perfectly with each dish he prepares.

The menu at the Camellia Café shifts a great deal depending on the availability of local fresh produce and seafood. No matter what the specific dishes offered are, however, the overall quality of the food is beyond reproach. In fact, many customers say they make the trip from other cities on a regular basis in order to get a taste of Chef Glass's latest concoctions.

The reputation of the Camellia Café is such that it has been the subject of feature articles in Mobile Monthly magazine and other semi-local publications. It's not only the food that customers and critics rave about though. The atmosphere at the Camellia Café is one of casual elegance. This is simply a cozy southern café that serves absolutely excellent food and has the friendly personable service to go with it. Also, as good as the food at this restaurant is, the bill won't put you in the poor house. In fact, with the prices for most entrees hovering at about the $10 mark, the food at the Camellia Café is so affordable that you'll be able to afford to eat there as often as you'd like while you're in town.

Some recent suggestions from customers include the Pot Roast and gravy served with mashed potatoes and haricots verts, the Seared Ahi Tuna Wrap with Asian Slaw and the Local Blue Crab with Bitter Lettuce Salad. Shrimp and Grits is another local favorite, as is the old standard Ashley Farms Chicken Salad Sandwich. There's something for everyone at the Camellia Café and no matter what you pick, it's very likely you'll never have tasted anything quite so good in your life.
